FAKRO Inspires for the Fifth Time

International Design Competition- FAKRO Inspires for the Fifth Time

Atelier of the Future – New Space for New Visions is the motto of the fifth edition of the competition for architects organized by FAKRO and A10 Magazine for European Architecture.

A10 NEW VISION OF THE LOFT 3

The competition was to design the space atelier of the future. This is a place where creative spirits can work in an environment filled with innovative solutions which together create the perfect place to nurture artistic vision. All projects submitted in the contest had to utilise three innovative FAKRO products.

Architects from over 20 countries took part, including those from as far afield as Australia, Iran, Greece and Germany to Poland, Spain, Ukraine, Serbia and Portugal.

Together they created over 60 visionary loft spaces that have been submitted for judging by an international jury consisting of: Indira van't Klooster – editor-in-chief of A10 magazine for architects, Ethel Baraona Pohl – critic and curator of architecture, Sabina Sujew – Master of Fine Arts, FAKRO export manager.

Such was the high standard of the entries that the jury had a very difficult task picking out their favourites. But, after much deliberation the winners have been chosen:

- When evaluating competition projects, the Jury took into consideration creativity of architects, taking care of details, message, lyricism as well as the social aspect. - says Sabina Sujew – We were strongly impressed by the projects and that is why the choice was so difficult. The last stage of the debate provoked the greatest discussion, and ultimately the most viable project won that can come into being in any place of the world where garages are. Projects we evaluated show that architects come out with standard architectural solutions and begin to pay strong attention to the social aspect.

FAKRO congratulates the winners and thanks all the participants for submitting projects. We encourage all entrants to follow FAKRO’s activities and make sure they take part in the next contest we hold.

Concursul Internațional de Design - FAKRO Inspires - FAKRO
The conference organized by FAKRO – leading manufacturer of roof windows and loft ladders was attended by architects from Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Hungary and Romania. The meeting was graced with the presence of Indira van't Klooster – editor-in-chief of A10 Magazine and Chairman of the Competition Jury.

The conference schedule provided visiting the FAKRO Company. Participants had an excellent opportunity to familiarize with design process and manufacture of roof windows. An important item on the agenda was a discussion panel dedicated to conclusion of the competition. The meeting was inaugurated by Sławomir Gawlik, Marketing Director of FAKRO, with short presentation on the activities carried out by the company relating to cooperation with the architects. Next person to take the floor was Indira van't Klooster who discussed previous editions of the contest and the role of sustainable construction in the architecture. During the panel, the ceremony of granting diplomas to winners of New Vision of the Loft 3 took place. At the close of the conference, guests presented their own works and projects they are currently working on to other architects.

Participants of the conference had a chance to benefit from the number of attractions. FAKRO is headquartered in Nowy Sącz – the region of Poland extremely rich in original culture and customs. Architects could learn about it when visiting two of the many Orthodox churches in the area, the first one in Powroźnik which was listed by the UNESCO as World Heritage Site and the second one in Szczawnik. Nowy Sącz region is also famous for winter sports. Guests could try their hand on sledges, snowmobiles and trikke-skki. After attractions in the open air, they visited Salt Mine in Wieliczka.

Architects were leaving Nowy Sącz with smile on their faces. Happy and relaxed, full of new and creative ideas how to use FAKRO products in their projects.

Meetings for the architects participating in the competition are already a tradition. The conference in FAKRO headquarters was organized for the third time. We look forward to the next one and encourage all architects to send competition projects for a new edition of the contest FAKRO Inspires - Space for New Visions. We wait for your projects – as summarized by Małgorzata Respekta-Paszkiewicz, Specialist for Cooperation with Architects in FAKRO.
